Bass Amplifier

on my bass amplifier there is a high input and a low input.?
whats the difference? is it referring to volume or pitch or something entierely different?
The high input is for basses with passive electronics and the low input is for basses with active electronic (there is an 9V voltage battery in the bass preamplifing the sound). The difference of the those inputs is the impedance.
