Kenwood Excellon
What would cause a car stereo to lose power whenever the volume is turned up?
I installed a Kenwood Excellon receiver in my 08 Tundra in Sept. of 2008. About a year later, the unit started to shut off and come back on whenever the volume is turned up to a certain point. A certified Kenwood repair shop tested the receiver out of the vehicle and it tested fine. The problem is somewhere in the truck and is driving me crazy! I have double and triple checked all of my connections and wires and found no problems there. Please help!!
Check your speakers. Chances are either one is grounding out to the chassis, or is to low of an impedence to allow the head unit to stay on. What is probably going on is the head unit is going into protect to prevent damage to the internal amplifier. Do continuity between the speakers and chassis ground and make sure none of them read lower than 4 ohms.
