Boat Radio

Posted on Saturday, August 7, 2010 in Car Amplifiers

how do you replace a old boat radio with a new one?

is it easy? Please help.

There should be 4 connections to it that need to be disconnected / cut and then connected to the new one.
1. 12V Negative
2. 12V Positive
3. Antenna
4. Speaker(s) Mono - 2 wires; Stereo - 4 wires
The new radio should come with connection & mounting instructions.
Label each wire as you remove it so you'll know where to connect it with the new unit.
Then connect them to the corresponding connection on the new radio.
If you're going from mono to stereo, you will want to invest in a pair of new speakers; preferably weather resistant ones (2 pairs if you want front & rear).
The physical removal & replacement of the radio will depend on their relative size. A new fabricated wooden piece may be needed.
