Amp Mofset

What do you think is wrong with my system?

I have an old pioneer DEH-34 headunit and it is 50 by 4 mofset. I also have a Boston subwoofer but do not know wattage. Then i have an MTX amp that is 285 watts rms. My headunit said it can go 30 volume but when i have everything cranked up to the limit like the loud setting and subwoofer setting and then it wont go past twelve on the volume. When i go over twelve the headunit dims and the sub turns off and comes back on when i turn the volume back down.
What does everybody think is wrong? What should i do to prevent this from happening?

your head unit or amp is clipping ease off the bass boost and loud button and turn your gain down on your amp then blast it. Then readjust everything with the volume up.
